Early Playoffs?

The final week in the NFL regular season has come up and there are many teams still in it. A couple of divisions are so close that they seem like the playoffs are already here. One close division is the NFC North. The Vikings and Bears both haved a shot at making it to the playoffs. All the Vikings have to do is win to get in but the Bears have to win and the Vikings have to lose. The wild card is also close in both conferences. Many teams are counting on other teams to lose if they win and many other thing may happen. The bar is set so lets see which teams come out on top.

And the Heisman winner is...

The Heisman trophy could've went to Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, or Tim Tebow but ended up going to Oklahoma's own, Sam Bradford. It was close between him and first-runner-up, Colt McCoy, and Tim Tebow falling right behind them both. I think Colt McCoy should've won the award, but I guess the computers didn't agree with me. So now we will see how the Heisman trophy winner will handle himself in the BCS Title game against the Florida Gators. It's high-powered offense vs. high-powered offense so we will see which offense will prevail.

Record!

Albert Lea native, Ben Woodside, tied a division 1 free-throw record with 30 in one game! He tied the record with Hall-of-Fame player, "Pistol" Pete Maravich. Even though he tied the rocord and ended the game with 60 points, his team, North Dakota State ended up short in thriple-ovetime. That was the first game in the Drake tournament and they ended up getting third place. The team they lost to beat Drake by three in a heart-breaker.

Diuretic's

The new question is should the league suspend the Williams Bros for using diuretic's. So far the league has suspended them and others then they ended the suspension. Now it's up for questiong again. If the end up suspending the players who used diuretic's they would have to sit for at least four games. The longer the league waits, the further the down the road the players would have to sit. I think that they should have to sit but not for that long at all. Even though I like the Vikings, I still think they did the wrong thing by taking diuretics.

It's up to the computers

Since the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide lost to their opponent the #4 ranked Florida Gators, the BCS Title game is up for grabs. One team that looks to be a sure in is #2 Oklahoma who defeated their opponent by a huge margin. Most sports experts say it will be Florida against Oklahoma in the title game, but it is up to the computers. I want it to be Oklahoma vs. Texas because I don't like Florida at all. The BCS ranking show is on tonight so we will have to wait and see.

Sunday Night Football

I usually don't watch Sunday Night Football but tonight I definatly am. The Vikes are playing the Bears. Huge game. Both tied for first. And the Packers just lost so even better. I hope the Vikings just dominate but who knows. Adrian will probably run over the Bears "D" but we will need some passing yards to beat the Bears. The stage is set. Lets get it on!

3 way tie

With the Oklahoma Sooners win over Oklahoma State, it made the Big 12 South a three way tie. The teams are Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. The team that is ranked higher will play Missouri for the Big 12 Championship. As of now Texas is ranked 2 and in the lead but sports analests say that Oklahoma will pass them as the new #2. We will just have to see how that turns out and who ends up playing for the BCS Title game.

BCS all scrambled up

Once you think you have the BCS in your grasp, something happens. That thing this week was #2 Texas Tech fell huge to #5 Oklahoma 65-21. The Oklahoma offense was firing on all cylinders while the high powered Texas Tech offense couldn't get it together. But the main reason Oklahoma won by a huge margin had to be their defense. They held Texas Tech to their worst offense performance of the season. Now there are three Big 12 South teams tied with one loss. It looks like we will have to wait til the last game on the last teams schedule to see who is in the BCS title game.

Celtics Twolves!

I'm going to the Celtics vs. Timberwolves game on friday. It's going to be awesome! Seeing KG back in the Target Center and just seeing the Celtics play. I haven't been to a Timberwolves game in a while and now my dad bought a package that we get to go the the Celtics game and we get to choose anyother game we want! Kevin Love will hopefully rip it up baby! Go Timberwolves!

Is it basketball season already?

It's the first game for many division 1 mens basketball teams and there was already one close game with a ranked team involved. The team was Duke, and yes I said Duke. They are ranked 5 and already got a test. Duke faced off against Rhode Island and Duke was highly favored. Rhode Island put that in the back of their minds though. Duke was up 1 with 10 seconds and Rhode Island had the ball. The threw it in and took a shoot but missed and Duke got the ball and made both free-throws. Rhode Island had one last desperation shot and took it. They missed and Duke pulled through. If this is just the first game in the season, I can't wait til March Madness!

Trick plays the new thing?

It seems as though college football has turned into trick plays as their go to plays. There were many trick plays this past week and they pretty much all worked. All though not really trick plays, onside kicks are still tricky in my play book. Navy used the onside kick twice as they recovered the ball both times against Notre Dame. Navy did end up falling but seemed like they perfected the onside kick. Boston College also used the onside kick on a suprise attack in the first quarter after their first touchdown. They ended up winning their game against #19, Florida State. The most gutsy call was probably Texas when their place-kick holder, also their WR, took the snap and leaped over the whole defense line to gain the first down. Lets see next week if the trick plays continue.

Oklahoma State no problem for Texas Tech

The only word to describe this game was, "blowout". Thats what the game was the whole way. Texas Tech was clicking on offense and Oklahoma State couldn't figure it out. So far #2 Texas Tech has found it inside them to win these two big games back to back. Grahm Harrell had another huge game when he went 40-50 with 456 passing yards and 6 TDs. He is one of the front runners for the Heisman and I think if he keeps playing like this he will win. Texas Tech has another huge test next week against #6 Oklahoma. This will be the battle of the QB's as they both have Heisman hopefulls on their teams.

Another great one!

It was another great college football game with the #8 rated Utah vs. the #12 rated TCU. The game was expected to be close but this game put a whole new meaning to that. TCU had many chances to go up by more but their kicker #37, missed two key field goals. TCU was up by 4 with a little bit left in the game. Utah's QB, Brian Johnson led Utah on a 80 yard drive and completed a fourth down play to set them ahead 13-10. Utah WR, Freddie Brown had the big catches with 9 annd a total of 105 yards. Even though TCU had more total offensive yards, they couldn't pull away with the victory. Utah now 10-0 hoping to move up in the standings, faces off against San Diego State next week with hopes of coming away with a victory and keepeing their undefeated season alive.

Texas falls in dramatic fashion

It came down to the final seconds in this thriller. #7 Texas Tech Red Raiders faced off against the already proven #1 Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns have already beaten former #1, the Oklahoma Sooners, and also the Missouri Tigers and the Oklahoma State Cowboys (all in thr top #11). But the Red Raiders seemed to be too much for the Longhorns. Texas Tech lead the whole way starting off the game strong with a safety. They lead at half but the second half was all Texas untill the final seconds. Texas QB, Colt McCoy lead Texas on a strong drive which ended with a touchdown, and gave them the lead 33-32. Texas Tech got the ball back and drove the ball down the field but they knew they needed to get within at least 40 yards because their kicker was in the stands last game and got on the team by winning a contest. So they drove it down and with 8 seconds left, Texas Tech QB, Grahalm Harrel found WR Michael Crabtree and Crabtree took it to the house in dramitic fashion winning 39-33.

It's the Phillies

Strike three, Phillies win, Phillies win! Those are just some of the words you might have heard as Brad Lidge gets the final out with a strike three. The game had been post-ponned twice before finally they got to finish it out. The Phillies and Rays started the game in the 7th inning with the game all tied up. The Phillies were the first to score in the so called three inning game, and it turned out to be enough. It looks like their win in game three did turn out to be there turning point in this series (as I called). It was their first World Series win in a long time and their pitcher Cole Hamels got the MVP (along with a new car). In their parade, Jimmy Rollins joked about the Mets having a good player in Johan Santana but they didn't have a team like the Phillies did. Well they can enjoy this World Series win untill next season when they have to get back on the field and play their next season.

Bulldogs Win!

"It's down to this field goal.... it's blocked, Bulldogs win!'' said the announcer. It was a tight game the whole way between the Davidson Wildcats and the Drake Bulldogs. The Wildcats lead off with a touchdown but the Bulldogs answered with a touchdown of their own. It was no looking back from there as the Bulldogs won in a close one, 20-17. The last play was a 25 yard field goal that was blocked by the Bulldogs ending the game. Hopefully this will give the Bulldogs momentum for the rest of the season because they were looking for something to get them fired up. The Bulldogs have a buy week this coming week and hope to have the same outcome next against Morehead State.

It's all tied up

The World Series has been a nail bitter in the first two games. The Phillie's winning the first game and the Rays taking game two. Each game has been close and very good pitching by both pitching staffs. It's basically up for grabs now and whoever wants it more can take it. Game three is set at the Phillie's ball park even though it has showed that home field has not ment much with each team taking a game. Lets see who will take game three and if that momentum will carry into winning the World Series.

Texas stays alive

The #1 Texas Longhorns faced off against the #11 Missouri Tigers. For some reason ESPN favored the Tigers by 63% (for those of you who don't know what that means, it means the Missouri Tigers were picked to win by 63% of the people). I personally thought Texas would win but I guess ESPN thought otherwise. The Longhorns came out strong leading 35-3 at half. The Tigers though won the third quarter but it wasn't enough falling 56-31. I thought it was going to be a much closer game but the Longhorns thought otherwise. So finally a #1 ranked team wins and there will be no mystery who next weeks #1 will be.

Red Sox force game 7!

As we all know, the Boston Red Sox are in their prime when they are down in a series and everybody turns off the t.v. They showed another one of those moments when they came back from a 7-0 deficit in game 5. I even will fess up to shutting off the t.v., but I turned it back on to see the score and when I saw it was 7-4 I started watching it again. J.D. Drew is probably one of the most clutch players in the mlb with his home run to make the game 7-6, and his game-winning ground-rule-double in the ninth. That game made the Red Sox have all the momentum in game 6 and pull away with a 4-2 victory. Now it's game 7 and it's win or go home for both teams. We will see who shines through in the toughest circumstances.

It was a Nail Bitter!

The #1 Oklahoma Sooners faced off against the #5 Texas Longhorns. It was a close game the whole way. The Sooners lead for most of the way but the Longhorns came back with some controversial calls. Both quaterbacks had good games with a high scoring game but the Longhorns came out on top 45-35 even though it seemed a lot closer. The whole game was high energy offense and big hits on defense. The Sooners lost their middle linebacker in the fourth quater ehich set them back but it was Colt McCoy and his offense which showed the heart. Now all we have to see is who is the new #1.

Red Sox win game 1

The Rays went into the American League Championship series with the Red Sox with a slight advantage winning the regular season series 10-8. That edge didn't seem to help in the first game of the series with the Red Sox pulling away with a win 2-0. Dice-K had some struggle in the first inning but got out of it like usual and then found his grove. He had a no-hitter until the 7th inning when he gave up two hits but still came out of it. The Red Sox went up 2-0 when a Rays outfielder dove for a ball but missed which scored Dustin Pedroia and they went up 2-0. Then Hideki Okajima and Justin Masterson came in and closed the next inning. Finally Jonathan Papelbon came in and finished the game out like usual and the Red Sox are up 1 game to none.

White Sox force playoff game

The Minnesota Twins thought they had it in the bag after winning their last game against the royals. The White Sox on the other hand had other plans. The beat the Indians in their third game but were still a game and a half back of the Twins. Then they played the Indians again and won off a grand slam off the bat of Alexei Rameriz. They could celebrate for a little bit but then had to focus on their main concern the Minnesota Twins. The game is set to Tuesday the 30th in their home town. John Danks faces Nick Blackburn lose and your done game. It's going to be intense and dramatic and I will be watching every minute of it. Go Twins!

Twins hold own destiny

The Minnesota Twins swept the Chicago White Sox this past week and now hold their own destiny with a series against the Kansas City Royals. The Twins looked like they were heading to the playoffs because they face a weak Royals team in their last series. The Twins took the Royals too softly and lost their first two games. The good news is that the White Sox lost their first game in their series against an ok Cleveland Indians team. The White Sox play later tonight and can take the lead with a win. The Twins can only hope that the White Sox lose and they win their final game against the Royals.

#1 goes down

Once again USC Trojans lost in a heart-breaker to the Oregon State Beavers. The Trojans couldn't stop the Beavers offense the first half but picked it up the second half, but it turned out to be A little too late. The Beavers ended up holding off the USC high powered offense and once again beat the Trojans. They beat the Trojans two years ago in the same atmosphere. The Beavers took the early lead in both games but the Trojans showed life a little too late. Now that the #1 team lost it is going to be interesting to see whos going to pull through as the new #1.

Hurricane Havoc

People say playing through a hurricane would be impossible but the Drake Bulldogs and the Lehigh Mountain Hawks did the impossible. It was a normal sunny day when the Drake Bulldogs flew into Bethlehem Pennsylvania to face off against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks. Even though it was the day before the game there was still warnings about Hurricane Hannah possibly coming through. The next day it was cool but still no sign of the Hurricane, until game-time and it started to rain. It kept raining and raining but they kept playing through it. People didn't think it was the Hurricane until the rain came in sideways and they knew the Hurricane arrived. Some people wanted to postpone the game but the officials kept the game going. The game ended with the Lehigh Mountain Hawks beating the Drake Bulldogs 19-0 but from that day on everybody will have a story that was supposed to be impossible.

Tarvaris or Frerotte

The question is Tarvaris or Frerotte? In recent news the Vikings benched Tarvaris and made Gus Frerotte their new starter. Do you think this is the right move? I personally have feelings both ways. I mean Tarvaris didn't have the greatest last two games but it wasn't all his falt. The play calling wasn't the greatest either. Then you have Gus Frerotte. He has helped us in the past but he also has slipped during games. I guess we are going to have to watch the Vikings next game against the Carolina Panthers and see if it was a smart move or if we just need a totally new quarterback. So Tarvaris or Frerotte?

Buckeyes slip past Bobcats

This past Saturday the Ohio State Buckeyes football team took to the field for a match-up against underdogs, Ohio Bobcats. The game got started and not many watched it because the Buckeyes were supposed to win with ease. Well, they didn't quit do that. The Ohio Bobcats were up in the 4th, 14-12 but the Buckeyes drove down the field and scored making it 19-14. The Buckeyes stopped the Bobcats so the Bobcats were forced to punt. That's when the true Ohio State Buckeyes shined. They returned a punt, 69 yards for a touchdown and took the game 26-14. The Buckeyes and their fans, (including me) had a moment of relief for a couple minutes but then relized that they play the #1 ranked USC Trojans next week and hopefully their star running back Chris Wells will be back and ready to perform.

Monday Night Football!

The first Monday Night Football Game kicked off this past Monday and it was division rivals the Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers! It was a close game throughout but the Packers held on to win the Monday Night Opener 24-19. I personally am a Vikings fan so I was disappointed with the way the game ended when Tarvaris Jackson threw an interception to a Packer Corner! The Vikings were driving down the field for a touchdown and then Tarvaris throws a pick! That made me mad and I personally think that the Vikings should get a veteran QB so we can have a run for the Playoffs.
